Money Train Special Symbols: Every Bonus Symbol Explained

Every Money Train bonus is built from the same idea: values on a grid, and special symbols that change them. This glossary covers every special symbol in the five main games and Origins Dream Drop: what it does, whether it has a persistent version, and where to find it.

Key terms

Persistent, one-off and permanent

Three words decide how much a symbol is worth. For the rules of the bonus itself, see Money Cart bonus explained.

  • One-off

Fires once, on the respin it lands. A Necromancer or Healer can bring it back.

  • Persistent

Fires on the respin it lands and on every respin after it, until the bonus ends.

  • Permanent (Money Train 5)

The Permanent Payer sits outside the grid and pays every respin from station 20 on.

Glossary

All Money Train special symbols

Grouped by what they do. Most value ranges are checked against the in-game rules screens; where a figure comes only from reviews, we say so below.

Values

The symbols that carry the money.

Payers

They add value to other symbols.

  • Payers

    Adjacent Payer

Adds its value only to the symbols next to it.

Appears in: Money Train 4 (also persistent)

  • Payers

    Tommy Gun Payer

Reveals a value from 5x to 100x and adds it to one random target, 3 to 10 times in a row.

    Appears in: Money Train 3

  • Payers

    Banker

Adds its value to every symbol on the grid and to every symbol that lands afterwards.

    Appears in: Origins Dream Drop

  • Payers

    Permanent Payer

Sits outside the grid from station 20 and pays its value to every symbol on each respin.

    Appears in: Money Train 5

Collectors

They gather value from other symbols.

  • Collectors

    Adjacent Collector

Collects values only from neighboring symbols.

Appears in: Money Train 4 (also persistent)

  • Collectors

    Collector-Payer

Collects first, then pays its new total out. In Money Train 2 it collects from and pays to every other visible symbol. From Money Train 3 on, it picks 3 to 5 symbols as targets, collects their values and pays its new total to each of them.

Appears in: Money Train 2, Money Train 3 (also persistent), Money Train 4 (also persistent), Money Train 5 (also persistent)

  • Collectors

    Absorber

Takes the values of all plain Bonus symbols and removes them from the grid. It can't take specials.

Appears in: Money Train 3, Money Train 5

Multipliers

They double or multiply existing values.

  • Multipliers

    Tommy Gun Sniper

Doubles one random symbol 2 to 6 times in a row.

    Appears in: Money Train 3

  • Multipliers

    Bomber

Multiplies every visible value by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. Unlocks at station 15.

Appears in: Money Train 5 (also persistent)

  • Multipliers

    Pyromancer

Burns a fixed Hot Zone onto the train. Values in it double, and specials there upgrade to persistent. Unlocks at station 15.

    Appears in: Money Train 5

Utility

They bring symbols back, change them or upgrade them.

  • Utility

    Necromancer

Brings back one-off specials that have already fired. How many varies: 2 to 7 in Money Train 2, Money Train 3 and Slingo Money Train, 1 to 7 in Money Train 4, and 1 or 2 in Money Train 5. The persistent versions in Money Train 3 and 4 bring back 1 to 7 after every respin.

Appears in: Money Train 2, Money Train 3 (also persistent), Money Train 4 (also persistent), Money Train 5 (also persistent)

  • Utility

    Healer

Brings 1 to 3 Collectors or Payers on the grid back to life with 2 to 7 lives each. Each life keeps the symbol active for one more respin.

    Appears in: Origins Dream Drop

  • Utility

    Persistent Shapeshifter

Turns into a different special after every respin. In Money Train 3 it becomes a Collector, Collector-Payer, Sniper, Tommy Gun Sniper or Tommy Gun Payer.

Appears in: Money Train 3 (persistent only), Money Train 4 (also persistent)

  • Utility

    Arms Dealer

Turns 1 to 4 plain Bonus symbols into special symbols, which then perform their action. The persistent version converts one Bonus symbol after every respin.

Appears in: Money Train 4 (also persistent), Money Train 5 (also persistent)

  • Utility

    Upgrader

Upgrades 1 to 3 specials to their persistent versions.

    Appears in: Money Train 4

Grid and respins

They give you more space or more respins.

  • Grid and respins

    Reset Plus

Raises the respin counter by one, so it resets to 4 instead of 3.

Appears in: Money Train 2, Money Train 4

  • Grid and respins

    Widener

Has a value and opens an extra reel, up to two in total.

    Appears in: Money Train

  • Grid and respins

    Unlocker

Opens a locked row of the 6x8 bonus frame.

    Appears in: Money Train 4

  • Grid and respins

    Ticket Master

Takes the total win and adds it to every other visible symbol, and always applies a +1 Ticket. Landing one with the trigger starts a Super Bonus at station 15.

Synergy

Combinations that make big wins

No combination is guaranteed or predictable: every symbol lands at random. These are simply the pairings that can push values highest.

  • Persistent Payer + Persistent Collector

The classic engine. The Payer raises every value each respin and the Collector gathers the raised total each respin. Possible from the original Money Train on.

  • Sniper + Collector

Doubling values before a Collector gathers them multiplies the Collector's haul. A Necromancer that revives both repeats the trick.

  • Upgrader + one-off specials (Money Train 4)

Turning a one-off Collector or Payer into a persistent one late in a full grid can transform the round.

  • Bomber + Pyromancer (Money Train 5)

Both arrive at station 15: a Hot Zone doubling values and a Bomber multiplying everything by up to 5x.

Special symbols FAQ

What is a persistent symbol in Money Train?

A special symbol that keeps firing on every respin until the bonus ends, instead of just once. Persistent Payers and Collectors drive most big wins.

What does the Necromancer do?

It brings back one-off special symbols that have already fired, so they act again. It appears from Money Train 2 onwards and revives 2 to 7 symbols in Money Train 2, 3 and 4, or 1 to 2 in Money Train 5.

What does the Sniper do?

It doubles the values of 3 to 8 random symbols on the grid, and can hit the same symbol more than once.

What does the Arms Dealer do?

In Money Train 4 and 5 it turns 1 to 4 plain Bonus symbols into special symbols, which then fire.

Which Money Train has the most special symbols?

Money Train 4, with more than 20 features including Adjacent Payers and Collectors, the Unlocker and the Upgrader.

How we checked the numbers

Symbol behavior and value ranges are taken from our reviews of Money Train, Money Train 2, 3, 4 and 5. Each of those reviews lists its own sources. For the Banker and Healer we used Relax Gaming's Origins Dream Drop page and BigWinBoard.

Most counts are now checked against the in-game rules screens, read in the demos in October 2026:

  • Money Train 2: Payer, Collector, Collector/Payer, Sniper (3 to 8), Necromancer (2 to 7), Reset Plus and the persistent versions.
  • Money Train 3: Necromancer (2 to 7), Persistent Necromancer (1 to 7), Tommy Gun Payer (5x to 100x, 3 to 10 times), Tommy Gun Sniper (2 to 6 times), Absorber and Shapeshifter.
  • Money Train 4: Necromancer and Persistent Necromancer (1 to 7), Arms Dealer (1 to 4, persistent: 1 per respin), Collector Payer (3 to 5), Sniper (3 to 8), Adjacent Payer and Collector, Unlocker and Reset Plus.
  • Money Train 5: Necromancer (1 to 2), Arms Dealer (1 to 4), Bomber (2x to 5x), Absorber and Ticket Master.
  • Money Train: Payer, Collector, Widener and the persistent versions, 3 respins, Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5.
  • Slingo Money Train: Necromancer (2 to 7), Sniper (3 to 8), values up to 10x or 200x the Feature Stake.
  • Money Sleigh: Santa (2 to 7), Eternal Santa (1 to 7), Helper (3 to 8), Super Helper (2 to 6 times), Super Giver (5 to 100, 3 to 10 times) and Snow Bank.
  • Origins Dream Drop: Healer (1 to 3 symbols, 2 to 7 lives), Banker, Payer and Collector.

The in-game rules settle two old disagreements. BigWinBoard gave 1 to 6 for the Money Train 2 Necromancer; the game says 2 to 7. Relax's launch news said the Healer revives one symbol; the game says 1 to 3. The Golden Bonus is confirmed at 20x to 200x, and the Pyromancer's Hot Zone by the Money Train 5 rules. The Upgrader and Permanent Payer still rest on Relax Gaming material and independent reviews.

Play responsibly

Special symbols only matter once the bonus starts, and in the main games that can take hundreds of spins. Knowing what each symbol does doesn't change the odds. Treat gambling as paid entertainment, set a budget before you start and stop when it's gone.
