Slingo Money Train Review: Rules, RTP and the Money Train Bonus

Our score: 7.6/10

Quick verdict: a clever mash-up of bingo-style Slingo and the Money Train respin bonus. Ten spins, a 5x5 card and a ladder that leads to a proper Money Cart-style round. The RTP is a low 94.42% and extra spins cost extra, so it's a novelty rather than a replacement for the slots.

What is Slingo Money Train?

Slingo Money Train is a Slingo game made by Gaming Realms under license from Relax Gaming. The deal was announced in April 2022 and the game launched on Slingo.com in late May 2023, with a wider rollout in July.

Slingo mixes slots with bingo. Instead of paylines you get a 5x5 card of numbers and a single reel that spins below it. Match numbers to mark them off, complete lines ("Slingos") and climb a prize ladder. In this version, the top of the ladder leads to a respin bonus taken from Money Train 2.

Rules in a minute

How a Slingo Money Train round works

  1. Place a bet

Pick your stake from $0.20. Each round costs one bet and gives you 10 spins.

  2. Spin the reel

Each spin shows 5 symbols. Numbers that match the column above are marked on your card.

  3. Use the Wilds

A Wild lets you mark any number in its column. A Super Wild lets you mark any number on the card.

  4. Collect Free Spins

A Free Spin symbol adds one extra spin to the round. There are no blockers in this game.

  5. Complete Slingos

Each full row, column or diagonal is a Slingo. The more you have, the higher you climb the ladder.

  6. Buy extra spins (optional)

After the 10 spins, you can buy up to 8 more. Each is priced individually based on what's still in reach.

Prizes

The Slingo ladder

Your Slingo count decides the prize. From 4 Slingos you reach the wheels, which can pay a cash prize or give you a shot at the bonus. At the top of the ladder, the Money Train Bonus is guaranteed.

We checked the ladder in the demo. 3 Slingos pay a small cash prize, 4 to 8 spin a wheel, and 9, 10 and 12 pay a cash prize plus the bonus. There's no separate rung for 11. At a $0.20 bet, the Bronze Wheel's 1x–15x range is $0.20 to $3; at $1, it's $1 to $15.

The main event

The Money Train Bonus

The respin round is a compact version of the Money Cart. For how the full bonus works, see Money Cart bonus explained.

  • Base

    Bonus

Comes in bronze, silver and gold and shows 1x to 200x the Feature Stake.

  • Payer

    Payer

Reveals 1x to 10x and adds its value to every other visible symbol.

  • Collector

    Collector

Reveals 1x to 10x, then collects every visible value into its own.

  • Combo

    Collector-Payer

Reveals 1x to 200x, collects all other values, then pays its new total to every other symbol.

  • Sniper

    Sniper

Reveals 1x to 10x and doubles 3 to 8 other Bonus symbols. It can hit the same one more than once.

  • Revive

    Necromancer

Reveals 1x to 10x and brings back 2 to 7 used one-off specials: Collector, Payer, Collector-Payer or Sniper.

  • Extra spin

    Reset Plus

Reveals 1x to 10x and raises the starting value of the respin counter by one.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Payer

Adds its value to all other symbols on every respin. It doesn't pay itself.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Sniper

Doubles 3 to 8 other Bonus symbols at the end of every respin.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Collector

Collects all visible values on every respin. It doesn't collect its own value.

  • Prize

    Full grid

Filling every position pays 500x, according to BigWinBoard: $100 at $0.20 or $500 at $1.

The bonus plays like Money Train 2: 3 respins that reset with every new symbol, persistent versions of the specials, and a 5x4 grid that grows to 7x4 when you fill a reel. The rules count every value in multiples of the Feature Stake: up to 10x for Payers, Collectors, Snipers, Necromancers, Reset Plus and the persistent symbols, and up to 200x for Bonus symbols and the Collector-Payer.

The numbers

Slingo Money Train RTP, volatility and max win

The RTP is 94.42%, or 94.47% if you buy extra spins only when they're good value. Some casinos round it to 94.5% or 94%. In theory, $100 wagered returns about $94.42, or $18.88 per $20 at $0.20 bets.

That's below the default RTP of every numbered Money Train slot. It isn't the lowest in the family, though: Origins Dream Drop runs at 94%, and Money Train 5 has versions down to 86%.

Volatility is rated high. The bonus needs 9, 10 or 12 Slingos, or a bonus entry from one of the wheels.

Extra spins are the hidden cost of any Slingo game. The game shows the price of each extra spin before you buy, and that price depends on the card. Buying only at good prices is what lifts the RTP to 94.47%: about 5 cents more per $100 wagered.

The max win is 10,000x your bet: $2,000 at $0.20 and $10,000 at $1. SlotCatalog also lists an absolute cap of 250,000 in the casino's currency, so check your casino's terms.

Most rounds end on the lower rungs of the ladder, so a short demo may not reach the bonus. That says nothing about the next round.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • A different format built around the Money Train respin bonus
  • Short rounds: 10 spins on a 5x5 card
  • Money Train 2-style respin bonus at the top of the ladder
  • No blockers on the reel

What we don't

  • 94.42% RTP, below the default of every numbered Money Train slot
  • Extra spins add to the cost of a round
  • Bet limits vary between sources and casinos
  • Less build-up than the slots' base game and bonus

Similar games

These games use the same respin bonus or take the series into another format.

  • Money Train 2

The slot this bonus is based on: the same 7x4 respin round, with a base game of lines and a 50,000x cap.

  • Money Train

The 2019 original: a simpler Money Cart bonus, a 96.2% RTP and a 20,000x cap.

Our verdict: is it worth playing?

Slingo Money Train: an occasional change of pace from the slots.

The Slingo card and ladder are a different route to the Money Train respin bonus. Rounds are short and the rules are easy to follow once you've seen the ladder.

It suits players who already like Slingo games. Skip it if RTP matters most to you, or if you'd rather not be offered extra spins at the end of each round. For the bonus itself, Money Train 2 has a higher RTP.

How we checked the numbers

The Slingo ladder is the part we could check ourselves: we read the rungs on the in-game screen in the demo. Everything else comes from Gaming Realms, Slingo.com, BigWinBoard, SlotCatalog and GamblingZone.

Sources disagree on the release date (late May or July 2023), the RTP rounding and the maximum bet, which ranges from 5 to 100 in the casino's currency. The wheel ranges and the 500x full-grid prize are from BigWinBoard only. Drafts are prepared with AI from this fact base and checked by an editor. Read our editorial policy and review method.

Play responsibly

A Slingo Money Train round costs one bet, but up to 8 extra spins can be offered at the end. Decide before the round whether you'll buy any, and count them toward your budget. Stop when the budget is gone.
