Money Train 3 Slot Review: RTP, Bonus Buys and 100,000x Max Win

Our score: 8.7/10

Quick verdict: Money Train 3 doubles the cap to 100,000x and adds the most complex symbols of the 5x4 games. Bonus results swing widely, the RTP drops to 96.1% and the bonus is just as rare as in Money Train 2. It suits large budgets; small ones run out quickly.

What is Money Train 3?

The Money Train 3 slot is the third main game in Relax Gaming's series, released on . It keeps the familiar 5x4 grid and 40 fixed paylines. The gang moves into a futuristic setting: a train running on glowing turquoise fuel, with a giant skull bolted to the front.

Four outlaws are the premium symbols: an older man with goggles and a cowboy hat, a man with a mohawk and sunglasses, a green-haired man in a gas mask and a woman with blue hair buns. The Wild is a gas mask. Underneath the new look, the formula is the same: a base game with a respin feature, and a Money Cart bonus where values lock, grow and get collected.

What changes is the scale. The max win doubles from 50,000x to 100,000x, and four new special symbols make the bonus far more volatile. For the first time, you can also choose how much to pay for the bonus, from 20x to 500x.

It was the last numbered game on 5x4 paylines until Money Train 5 returned to the format in 2026. It runs in HTML5, so it plays in desktop and mobile browsers.

Rules in a minute

How to play Money Train 3

Results are random on every spin. What you control is the bet, the buy option (if allowed) and your session length.

  1. Choose your bet

Set a stake between $0.10 and $10 per spin. All 40 lines are always active.

  2. Match 3 or more

Wins pay for 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols on a line from the leftmost reel. The gas-mask Wild substitutes for the paying symbols.

  3. Watch for respins

After a losing spin, the sticky respin feature can start at random and build a multiplied win.

  4. Land 3 Bonus symbols

Three or more Bonus symbols anywhere trigger the Money Cart bonus with 3 respins.

  5. Grow the grid

New symbols lock and reset the respins to 3. Filling a whole reel opens another, up to 7x4.

  6. Collect the total

When the respins run out, every value on the grid is paid as a multiple of your bet, up to 100,000x.

Paytable

Symbols and paytable

The paytable has the same values as Money Train 2. The four outlaws pay 8x to 20x for five on a line, and the card suits pay 3x to 5x. The gas-mask Wild pays like the top symbol.

As before, the base game is not where the money is. A full screen of the top outlaw is the best line result possible; anything above that comes from the bonus.

All values here were checked in the paytable inside the Money Train 3 demo, shown at a $2 bet and divided by the stake.

Base-game sticky respins

Money Train 3 drops the Money Train 2 respin trigger and replaces it with a random one. After a spin with no win, the game can pick one symbol on the reels and make it sticky. A respin follows, and every new matching symbol also sticks and earns another respin.

Multiplier symbols worth 1x, 2x or 3x can land too. They don't stick, but they add to the win multiplier and grant one more respin. The feature ends when a respin brings nothing new, and the final win is multiplied.

Hearts are chosen as the sticky symbol. Over four respins you collect 9 Hearts across the lines and two multipliers of 2x and 3x. The line wins are added up and multiplied by 5x before they're paid.

Illustrative example; the game decides which symbol sticks.

The main event

The Money Cart bonus in Money Train 3

Three or more Bonus symbols start the respin bonus. The core rules haven't changed, but Money Train 3 adds four new special symbols and persistent versions of more of them.

  • Base

    Bonus

Worth 1x to 10x your bet. The trigger symbols become bet multipliers when the bonus starts.

  • Collector

    Collector

Adds the values of every visible symbol to its own.

  • Sniper

    Sniper

Doubles the values of 3 to 8 other Bonus symbols. It can hit the same symbol more than once.

  • Combo

    Collector-Payer

Selects 3 to 5 symbols as targets and adds their values to its own. It then pays its updated value to each target.

  • Revive

    Necromancer

Brings back 2 to 7 used non-persistent specials: Collector, Collector-Payer, Sniper, Tommy Gun Sniper or Tommy Gun Payer. It can pick the same symbol more than once.

  • New

    Absorber

Absorbs all normal Bonus symbols and removes them from the reels. Special symbols can't be absorbed.

  • New

    Tommy Gun Sniper

Picks one random target and doubles it 2 to 6 times.

  • New

    Tommy Gun Payer

Reveals a value of 5x to 100x and adds it to a random target, 3 to 10 times.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Collector

Collects all visible values on every respin until the bonus ends. It doesn't collect its own value.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Sniper

Doubles 3 to 8 other Bonus symbols on every respin until the bonus ends.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Collector-Payer

Repeats the Collector-Payer's collect-and-pay action on every respin.

  • Persistent

    Persistent Necromancer

Brings back 1 to 7 used non-persistent specials, and does it again on every respin.

  • New

    Persistent Shapeshifter

Turns into a different special after every respin: Collector, Collector-Payer, Sniper, Tommy Gun Sniper or Tommy Gun Payer.

How the grid grows

The bonus starts with 3 respins on the 5x4 grid. New symbols lock and reset the counter to 3. Fill a whole reel and an extra reel opens: this can happen twice, for a maximum 7x4 grid. Unlike Money Train 2, we found no reliable source for a fixed full-grid prize, so we don't count on one.

Persistent symbols

The rules screen lists five persistent symbols: the Persistent Collector, Sniper, Collector-Payer, Necromancer and Shapeshifter. They fire on every respin until the end. It lists no plain Payer, persistent or not. A Persistent Necromancer can revive Tommy Gun Payers on every respin, but rounds like that are rare. AboutSlots notes that persistent symbols can also count toward triggering the bonus.

All of these symbols, across every game in the series, are compared in our special symbols guide.

Money Train 3 bonus buys: four options from 20x to 500x

Money Train 3 was the first game in the series with several buy prices. All four have the same 96.5% RTP. The choice is about variance, not value.

The cheap options are short rounds with wide swings. The 500x Persistent Feature costs five Original Features for one persistent symbol at the start. Compare every game's buys in our bonus buy guide.

The numbers

Money Train 3 RTP, volatility and max win

RTP: 96.1%

Every $100 wagered returns $96.10 in theory over millions of spins. That's 0.3 points lower than Money Train 2. The bonus buys run at 96.5%. CasinoWizard lists a 94% version too, so check the info screen at your casino. Our RTP versions guide shows how.

Volatility: high

Hit frequency is 19.35%, so about one spin in five pays. The bonus lands about once every 434 spins. On average that's roughly $87 wagered between bonuses at a $0.20 bet, or $434 at $1.

Max win: 100,000x

The cap is 100,000x your bet: $10,000 at the $0.10 minimum, $20,000 at $0.20 and $100,000 at $1. It sits at the extreme end of the distribution.

iGB reported more than eight cap hits within two weeks of launch. A secondary news report describes one on release day, from a 500x buy at a 40-cent stake. These are a handful of results among a very large number of rounds, and most bonuses end far below the cap.

Head to head

Money Train 3 vs Money Train 2

Money Train 3 is bigger, not better in every way. You get twice the cap and more complex symbols, but a lower RTP on buys and a bonus that's no more frequent. If you prefer a slightly kinder math model, Money Train 2 still holds its own.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Tommy Gun symbols, the Absorber and the Persistent Shapeshifter add variety to the bonus
  • Four buy options, all at 96.5% RTP, where buys are allowed
  • Sticky respins add a base-game feature between bonuses
  • The familiar 40-line paytable makes the base game easy to follow

What we don't

  • Bonus buy RTP drops to 96.5% from 98% in Money Train 2
  • Bonus still lands only about once in 434 spins
  • Extremely swingy: many bonuses end small
  • No bonus buy in the UK, and a 94% version exists

Similar games

These games keep the Money Cart respin bonus but change the grid, the symbols or the math.

  • Money Train 2

The same 5x4 layout and outlaws with fewer specials. It has a higher 96.4% RTP, a 98% buy and a 50,000x cap.

  • Money Train 4

Keeps the Shapeshifter and Necromancer but uses a 6x6 scatter-pays grid with no Wild and only two buys.

  • Money Train 5

Also 5x4 with 40 lines and 96.1% RTP, but the bonus moves along train stations and adds an Ultra mode.

  • Money Sleigh

A bonus-only Christmas game based on Money Cart 3, with Santa as the Necromancer. No paylines and much smaller wins.

Our verdict: is it worth playing?

Money Train 3: the most volatile of the classic 5x4 games.

Money Train 3 turns every dial up. The new symbols add variety, the cap rises to 100,000x, and bonus results swing more than in Money Train 2.

The cost is a slightly worse math model and even more variance. It suits experienced players with a large budget. Skip it if you're new to the series or want steady results: start with Money Train 2 or look at the very different Money Train 4.

Frequently asked questions

Is Money Train 3 worth playing?

Yes, if you want the highest volatility in the classic 5x4 format and a 100,000x ceiling. The Money Train 3 slot is less forgiving than Money Train 2, with a lower RTP on buys.

What is the Money Train 3 RTP?

It's 96.1% in regular play and 96.5% on all four bonus buys. A 94% version is also listed at some casinos.

What is the max win?

It's 100,000x your bet: $20,000 at a $0.20 bet or $100,000 at $1. Most bonuses end far below it.

Which Money Train 3 bonus buy is best?

It's a question of variance, not value: all four have a 96.5% RTP. The 20x 1 Spin Feature and 50x 2 Spin Feature are shorter rounds with wider swings. The 500x Persistent Feature adds a persistent symbol from the start but costs five Original Features.

What does the Shapeshifter do?

It's a persistent symbol that changes into a different special symbol after every respin, choosing from the Collector, Collector-Payer, Sniper, Tommy Gun Sniper and Tommy Gun Payer.

How do you trigger the bonus?

It's triggered by 3 or more Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels.

Can I play Money Train 3 for free?

Yes. Most casinos that carry it offer Money Train 3 free play with play money, and some ask you to log in first. The math matches the real-money game.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It's built in HTML5 and runs in iOS and Android browsers, so no separate app is needed. More in our mobile guide.

How we checked the numbers

Money Train 3 has four buy prices and several new symbols, so this Money Train 3 review checks each against more than one source. We start from Relax Gaming's launch announcement and cross-check against BigWinBoard, SlotCatalog, AboutSlots and FruitySlots. The paytable, the special-symbol rules and the buy menu were checked in the demo's in-game screens, with Online-Slot.co.uk as a cross-check. Launch wins: iGB.

Where sources disagree, we say so. The 94% RTP version is listed by one source only. The release-day 100,000x win on a 500x buy comes from a secondary news report. We found no confirmed award for this game.

Play responsibly

Money Train 3 has the widest swings of the 5x4 games: the bonus averages about 1 in 434 spins, and many rounds end small. Decide on a budget before you start and stop when it's gone. Gambling costs money; it isn't a way to earn it.
